Repairing Versus Replacing Your Commercial Fence – Fencing Suppliers Share The Secret

Your commercial fence is vital to your property – not only does it protect your premises from unauthorised entry, it adds aesthetic value and helps to enhance its appearance overall. It is for this reason that you need to take good care of your fence, repairing it when necessary or even replacing it should the damage call for it. As many people are unsure which route to take, fencing suppliers have outlined both approaches in the list below for your convenience.

Repair
If your commercial fence has sustained some damage, the first thing you might want to consider is performing some simple repairs.

Rot & Mold
Most fences are prone to attracting mold, but if you catch it early (when you notice the timber starting to accumulate a green fuzz) you can usually clean it off before it takes hold. When it comes to rot, however, timber usually becomes unsalvageable. Fencing suppliers won’t attempt to repair rotten barriers, as it isn’t cost effective.

Wobbly Posts
Another common fault is that the posts can become unstable. This can occur for a number of reasons, but it can be rectified by sinking a repair spur about 600mm into the ground alongside the post in order to put it back into place. You can then concrete these into the ground and bolt them together for a sturdy hold.

Loose Panels
The discovery of loose panels can be a real pain, especially when it starts to get windy. If the timber is still in good condition, then you might be able to reattach the panels or perform a quick fix by simply nailing them into place. It is important to note that this is generally a temporary measure and that they will come loose again.

Replace
If your commercial fence has sustained serious damage or its undergone more repairs than you can count, replacing it might be necessary.

Rot & Mold
If rot has set into your fence, no amount of patchwork skills are going to make repairs viable. It is, however, possible to replace those affected panels – ensuring that you won’t be facing the same problem a month or two down the track. It might be possible to replace rotted posts, but this will be a far more challenging task.

Wobbly Posts
One of the reasons that a post might be wobbly is that it is broken – there are no repairs that can salvage this level of damage, you simply need to replace the post to make it sturdy again. You could attempt the repair spur, but this is something that many fencing suppliers don’t recommend if you have multiple broken posts.

Loose Panels
When you discover a loose panel, rest assured that it won’t be long before a big gust of wind rips it off completely. A quick repair job could help, but it means that you’ll probably require a replacement fence all round in the end (especially if you opted for a cheap fix). It might be better to save yourself some time and replace it from the get go.

We hope that the information provided by our fencing suppliers above has enabled you to determine whether you should repair or replace your commercial fence. Although it can be tempting to just continue repairing your fence, it’s important to keep in mind that sometimes it’s just not worth the effort or cost. In these situations, you would be much better off replacing it. If you’re still unsure about the best route, be sure to contact an expert.
